A busy year

Since January I have been busy. THE WATCH was completed and premiered July 29th at the After-Set.com sponsored screening, sponsored by the Tribeca Grand Hotel.  Also screening that night were the comedic shorts, ASSets and what I believe to be my best work, the tragic comedy, MISCOMMUNICATIONS.

Straight8.net is the home page of a very cool film competition. You take one roll of 8mm film, stick it in a camera and shoot a movie. No editing. You shoot the entire film, in sequence, on that roll of film. I completed two entries. TRAPPED, shot in February and f--- facebook, shot in April.

TRAPPED debued at July's RUSHES SOHO Shorts Film Festival in London, England.

f--- facebook premiered at the Crown Heights Film Festival in Brooklyn, New York this October.

More festival announcements are pending.

Shorts shorts shorts

You (my one or two readers) may be wondering why I do not post all that often.

It is because I am busy doing other shorts and quite frankly, do not have time to 'blog' about it. Who reads blogs anyway? At this point it is all about the quick fix. Twitter and Facebook are the thing. Blogs are sucking wind these days.

They will be dead soon. Truly.

The aftermath of production

Shooting is a cross between an orgasm and having your teeth pulled. The emotions run an extreme unlike anything I can describe. High and low, up and down, pain to pleasure.

My cinematographer, Yueni Zander, is not one who likes to compromise and that is something to respect. She wants to light a shot in such a way that it is life. Real life captured with a lens. When one compromises, that life is dimmed.

We had some compromises put to film on Saturday and Sunday. Time was the cause and I regret that. such is the pain of making a film.

Going to war

Yesterday was like a war. Everything that you could imagine that would be against you... was.

Time. Money. Sound. Make-up and hair.

The very long day of production on my short film was like an extended battle and I was the lost General, wondering how he was going to get out of such a mess.

Fortunately, all was not lost because we actually shot moist of what was needed and captured some magical moments. The crew, mostly volunteers, were so hard working and full of valor that I am humbled.

Truly.

And I will get more into that tomorrow.

In the meantime, I have two more scenes to shoot. Ten shots/setups in total at two locations.

Today will be a breeze compared to yesterday. Kind of like taking the helicopter out away from the battle field.

Something tells me I'm busy

What a shame the blizzard dumped all over me. It's been some time since I could come back here and in that time much has happened. We lost our leading lady because of a scheduling conflict. Time is time and when it conflicts, such is life. So Hiroko and I will work on something down the road and in the mean time the lead will be played by the lovely Andrea Carolina Chan.

We are on schedule and shooting this weekend. Things are frantic and I must say, I have completely ignored this blog as a result. At the moment I am suffering from a bit of exhaustion and just need to catch up on sleep. If I am not rested for the weekend, I am in big big BIG trouble.
